In the two-way trading environment of foreign exchange investment, Chinese citizens, as investors, must clearly identify false foreign exchange brokers.
At present, China has not officially opened its foreign exchange retail trading market, and any foreign exchange trading platform that is promoted domestically is suspected of operating illegally. The vast majority of so-called foreign exchange platforms are not essentially real trading platforms, but "fake orders" or "betting orders." Even the Contract for Difference (CFD) provided by some well-known foreign exchange brokers is a legalized gambling contract in terms of law and structure, and is not a real foreign exchange spot transaction. In the true sense, foreign exchange trading contracts should refer to currency pair transactions in the inter-bank market.
Therefore, if Chinese citizens intend to participate in investment transactions, they should give priority to the domestic legally open stock market and futures market. Only when these markets cannot meet their asset allocation or risk hedging needs, should they consider moving funds abroad in compliance with regulations and seek formal platforms with regulatory qualifications overseas.
It is worth noting that such formal overseas platforms usually do not conduct public publicity in China in order to avoid conflicts with Chinese laws and prevent diplomatic disputes. On the contrary, most of the platforms that can carry out extensive marketing in China are small platforms registered in offshore jurisdictions. Its operations are not subject to Chinese laws, and it lacks sufficient asset scale and regulatory background, making it difficult for Chinese legal and government agencies to effectively pursue accountability, and it is not even worth investing resources in investigating and punishing.
In the two-way trading mechanism of foreign exchange investment, novices first need to deeply understand the double-edged sword effect of leverage - it is both a tool to amplify profits and the source of huge losses.
In the foreign exchange market, the trading platforms provided by most retail brokers naturally have leverage functions. For example, when traders use 100x leverage, they can control a position with a notional value of up to $1 million with just $10,000 invested. However, at the level of real inter-bank transactions, the situation is completely different: if a foreign exchange bank broker wants to hedge this $1 million order, he must use an actual $1 million in funds, not $10,000. This is because the trading platform in the interbank market itself does not have leverage, and all operations are based on actual currency exchange. From this perspective, a platform with a higher leverage ratio has greater risks and may even lack integrity. This type of high-leverage platform is closer to a "betting model" in nature. They do not simply bet on traders losing money, but on their eventual liquidation.
Another key point is that even a highly regulated market like Japan, which requires foreign exchange brokers to submit daily trading data reports to the Financial Services Agency, allows small orders to be hedged within the platform. This is not a regulatory loophole, but a reality: the inter-bank foreign exchange market has a minimum trading lot limit, usually US$1 million per lot. An order of only US$10,000 cannot be included in the interbank system for real hedging. Therefore, digesting small orders within the platform is a common operating method in the industry.
Based on the above analysis, for foreign exchange novices, a clear judgment standard gradually emerges: the lower the leverage, the more reliable, sincere, and trustworthy the platform is. Low-leverage platforms prefer to actually pass orders to the interbank market instead of betting against customers, thus fundamentally ensuring the transparency and fairness of transactions.
In the two-way trading mechanism of foreign exchange investment, investors must be clearly aware of a core fact: the higher the leverage, the greater the risk.
Foreign exchange trading itself is a high-risk financial product, and adding high leverage is tantamount to adding fuel to the fire, which will exponentially amplify account fluctuations and losses.
In order to induce investors to trade frequently and accelerate capital losses, some foreign exchange platforms or brokers often use "high leverage" as a marketing gimmick to attract participants who lack risk awareness to enter the market. However, mainstream financial regulators around the world have imposed strict limits on leverage levels. For example, the U.S. National Futures Association (NFA) stipulates that the maximum leverage for retail foreign exchange transactions shall not exceed 25 times; the British Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) sets the upper limit of retail customer leverage to 30 times; and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) also limits retail foreign exchange leverage to 30 times.
The logic behind these regulatory measures is a deep understanding of the risks of high leverage: the higher the leverage, small market fluctuations can trigger forced liquidation or major losses, and the actual risks borne by investors far exceed the nominal principal. Therefore, truly mature foreign exchange traders should abandon the fluke mentality of chasing high leverage and pay attention to position management and risk control, so that they can remain invincible in long-term trading.
During the two-way trading process of foreign exchange investment, traders need to clearly realize that foreign exchange currency pairs are essentially niche trading varieties, and their overall trading volume is not as huge as advertised by the outside world.
Although the foreign exchange derivatives market is widely mentioned, its actual liquidity is much lower than that of the stock market and futures market. Those who claim that the daily trading volume of the foreign exchange market reaches trillions of dollars are actually exaggerations, and there is a clear gap between them and the real situation.
For foreign exchange investment traders with smaller funds, choosing a market maker-type brokerage platform, even if its model has a betting nature, usually does not cause too much of a problem. However, once the amount of funds is large, traders should avoid using market maker platforms, because the profit source of such platforms is directly linked to the customer's losses, essentially becoming the opposite party of the customer. Although the market maker platform can realize internal hedging transactions, has low operating costs, and has a relatively smooth initial user experience, thus attracting a large number of retail investors, its inherent conflicts of interest cannot be ignored.
In contrast, a truly compliant foreign exchange market has strict regulatory requirements, and all funds and orders must be truly invested in the actual foreign exchange trading environment. In such markets, transaction costs depend primarily on the actual level of liquidity in the real market. While this mechanism may appear cumbersome to retail investors, it is precisely the preferred option for institutional investors. The real foreign exchange market, like the stock and futures markets, has clear and transparent market depth data; however, market makers cannot present real market depth because they provide virtual liquidity.
Under the foreign exchange bank broker model, customer orders will be directly passed to the real foreign exchange market for matching. Since the interests of bank brokers and customers are highly aligned, there will be no illegal transactions. On the contrary, foreign exchange market makers and brokers often use various reasons to prevent profitable customers from withdrawing funds smoothly due to the fundamental opposition of interests between them and their customers. Especially those traders who have made considerable profits often face greater resistance.
In the practical process of two-way foreign exchange trading, traders first need to understand that the market circulation volume of most niche foreign exchange currency pairs is limited, and the overall trading volume is far less than that of mainstream financial trading varieties.
The various foreign exchange currency pairs involved in daily transactions essentially belong to the category of foreign exchange derivatives. Compared with the stock and commodity futures markets, the overall liquidity of the foreign exchange derivatives market is weak. There is a lot of publicity in the market that the average daily trading volume of the foreign exchange market reaches trillions, which does not fit the actual trading scenarios of ordinary retail investors and is obviously exaggerated. The actual trading liquidity and transaction volume that retail investors can reach are far lower than the publicized data.
From the practical perspective of trading platform selection, ordinary retail investors with small capital volumes choose foreign exchange trading platforms with market maker models to participate in transactions. Even if the platform has gambling attributes, transaction risks and practical issues are relatively controllable. However, for traders with large funds, it is definitely not suitable to choose a market maker betting trading platform, otherwise they will face huge transaction risks and financial risks.
The core profit logic of the market maker trading platform is to obtain profits based on customers' trading losses, and the platform forms a direct gambling relationship with customers. This type of platform does not need to connect to the real international foreign exchange market. All transactions are completed in a closed loop within the platform, and the transaction operation cost is extremely low. At the same time, the platform will attract users by optimizing the initial trading experience and lowering entry barriers. Therefore, the vast majority of retail investors in the market will give priority to such platforms to participate in transactions.
The truly compliant international foreign exchange trading market has a complete regulatory compliance system and transaction standard mechanism. All customer funds and trading orders on the platform will be truly thrown into the international foreign exchange circulation market, fully connecting to the market's real trading links. Its transaction costs are determined by real market factors such as real-time market liquidity, spreads, and market fluctuations. The transaction process, deposits and withdrawals, and order closing procedures are more cumbersome. It requires higher transaction awareness and operational thresholds for retail investors. However, with the advantages of transparent compliance and no interest hedging, it has become the core choice of various institutional investors.
In terms of transaction transparency and market depth, the real foreign exchange market is consistent with the stock and futures markets, with clear, queryable, and traceable market depth data. Traders can intuitively view the number of pending orders at each price and market supply and demand, and the transaction data is open and transparent. On the other hand, the liquidity of the market maker betting platform is falsely created by the platform and is not the real market liquidity. Therefore, there is no real and clear market depth, and all transaction data are independently controlled by the platform.
The core operating model of a licensed foreign exchange bank broker is order matching and the docking of the real market. The trading interests of the broker and the client are consistent. They rely on real market transactions to earn compliant spreads and handling fees. There is no motivation for human intervention in transactions or illegal manipulation of the market, and they can avoid various illegal trading behaviors from the root. Market makers, brokers, and customers have a natural conflict of interests, and customer profits represent losses for the platform. Based on their own profit needs, such platforms often engage in various illegal operations. They deliberately hinder the normal withdrawal of profitable customers by setting withdrawal restrictions, delaying withdrawal review, maliciously intervening in transactions, and blocking the trading board. Especially for traders who have achieved large profits, illegal restrictions are more prominent.
